JAMIE DAVIS
Hello! Storytelling’s what it’s all about. I want your photographs to convey the emotions, sincerity and expressions of your story. I've been shooting weddings for over ten years now, and along the way opened up an event venue in Chicago. So, whether I am shooting a wedding or an engagement, I love sharing that experience with my clients. I approach all my couples as friends. It’s so important that we get to know each other before the big day, that we laugh and spend time together, whether over wine at a local place or skyping with coffee. I want to be another friend witnessing your life together beginning. Capturing the purity and essence of a moment with natural light is what makes photography so special to me. It can be the light streaming through an apartment window, or the glow of magic hour before sunset, natural light just puts people at ease, creates beauty and a true smile. It’s why I love doing what I do.
Favorite wedding moment:
When a couple meets at the end of the aisle. It’s electric and magic every time.
Discovered photography:
I grew up watching my mom shoot constantly from behind her Canon AE1. It was one of the many things that inspired me to get my BA in photography from Columbia College in Chicago.
Beyond photography:
I strive to be an advocate and activist both personally and professionally. Five years ago, I co-started a green wedding venue in Chicago that hosts sustainable and low waste events. Outside of work, I am usually in arm’s length of cheese and a good glass of wine. I am a super-fan of a great sandwich or anything involving travel. Find me on Instagram.

As a photographer, I am always looking for brief little moments that might be missed or overlooked. Whether in the nervous energy of a groom getting ready, the camaraderie and excitement of the groomsmen, or a couple in a world of their own on the dance floor, I am trying to find authentic expressions and emotions. These moments help to tell the story, capture a wedding as it unfolds in the same way you see, feel and experience the day. It’s a great privilege to have a front-row seat to witness and help preserve those memories. I love getting to be a groomsman every weekend without needing a new suit.
Favorite wedding moment:
Hands-down the dancing! It’s a really big day, people are anxious about giving speeches, saying their vows, not spilling wine on themselves. When all the pressure is gone, it’s great to see people just relax and have fun on the dance floor. People’s personalities come alive, they interact with friends and family in a whole new way. And I love seeing a quiet and reserved groomsman suddenly deciding to show off his seventh-grade break dancing moves.
Discovered photography:
I got my start as a photo assistant around the age of nine for my Dad. This mostly involved carrying a very heavy camera bag for him on family vacations. For some reason he would bring more gear on a family trip than we do to shoot a wedding. He gave me my first 35mm camera when I started taking photography classes in college.
Beyond photography:
An avid gardener and collector of Marushka screen prints, I am usually in the backyard of our Logan Square home, tending to our tomatoes, herbs and strawberries. Not only am I Jamie’s husband but her favorite #firstlookstandin.
